Introduction
If you ask ChatGPT, it’s the perfect SEO tool. When I inquired about how to use it for SEO, ChatGPT told me it could be used for everything from keyword research to voice optimization. In fact, with a little prodding ChatGPT spit out 20 ways to use it for SEO and it probably would have kept going if I kept pushing. Everytime I asked it gave me 5 more original ways to use it for this purpose. Unfortunately, while ChatGPT is really confident in its own skills most of these require either data ChatGPT does not have access to or access to your website which it currently does not have.
Here, read our chat before you move forward (warning it is lengthy):
Joe: Can you write me an outline on the ways ChatGPT can be used for SEO?
ChatGPT: ChatGPT is a chatbot developed by OpenAI that is powered by a version of the GPT (Generative Pre-trained Transformer) language model. It is designed to generate human-like text in response to user input.
There are several potential ways that ChatGPT could be used for search engine optimization (SEO):
Keyword research: ChatGPT could be used to generate a list of related keywords and phrases based on a given seed keyword. This could be useful for identifying relevant terms to include in website content and meta tags.
Content generation: ChatGPT could be used to generate unique, high-quality content for a website. This could be particularly useful for generating product descriptions or blog posts.
User experience optimization: ChatGPT could be used to develop and train chatbots to provide customer support or answer frequently asked questions on a website. This could improve the user experience and increase the likelihood of visitors staying on the site longer.
Link building: ChatGPT could be used to generate creative and compelling outreach emails to other websites in an effort to secure backlinks.
Title and meta tag optimization: ChatGPT could be used to generate variations of page titles and meta descriptions, which could be useful for testing and finding the most effective versions for driving traffic and improving search rankings.
Overall, ChatGPT has the potential to be a useful tool for SEO, as it can help with keyword research, content generation, user experience optimization, link building, and title and meta tag optimization.
Joe: Thanks, can you think of any other ways?
ChatGPT: Here are a few additional ways that ChatGPT could potentially be used for SEO:
Social media: ChatGPT could be used to generate social media posts or captions for images, which could help to increase engagement and drive traffic to a website.
Landing page optimization: ChatGPT could be used to generate variations of landing page content and headlines, which could be useful for A/B testing to determine the most effective versions for converting visitors into customers.
On-page optimization: ChatGPT could be used to help identify opportunities for improving the content and structure of a website's pages. For example, it could be used to suggest additional subheadings or bullet points to break up long blocks of text, or to identify and suggest alternative phrases for overused keywords.
Local SEO: ChatGPT could be used to generate unique, locally-focused content for a business's website, as well as to optimize the business's online profiles on local directories and review sites.
Voice search optimization: ChatGPT could be used to generate long-tail keywords and phrases that are commonly used in voice searches, which could help to improve a website's visibility in voice search results.
Overall, ChatGPT has the potential to be a useful tool for a wide range of SEO tasks, including keyword research, content generation, user experience optimization, link building, title and meta tag optimization, social media, landing page optimization, on-page optimization, local SEO, and voice search optimization.
Joe: Are there any more ways?
ChatGPT: Yes, here are a few more ways that ChatGPT could potentially be used for SEO:
PPC (pay-per-click) advertising: ChatGPT could be used to generate ad copy and headlines for PPC campaigns, which could help to increase the effectiveness of the ads and drive more traffic to a website.
Competitive analysis: ChatGPT could be used to analyze the content and keywords used by competitors, which could help to identify opportunities for improving a website's own content and rankings.
Image optimization: ChatGPT could be used to generate descriptive, keyword-rich file names and alt text for images on a website, which could help to improve the website's visibility in image search results.
Internal linking: ChatGPT could be used to generate suggestions for internal links within a website, which could help to improve the website's overall structure and navigation, as well as to distribute link equity more evenly across the site.
User-generated content: ChatGPT could be used to generate prompts or questions to encourage user-generated content on a website, such as product reviews or forum discussions. This could help to increase engagement and drive traffic to the site.
Overall, ChatGPT has the potential to be a useful tool for a wide range of SEO tasks, including keyword research, content generation, user experience optimization, link building, title and meta tag optimization, social media, landing page optimization, on-page optimization, local SEO, voice search optimization, PPC advertising, competitive analysis, image optimization, internal linking, and user-generated content.
Joe: Do you have any more ways?
ChatGPT: Here are a few additional ways that ChatGPT could potentially be used for SEO:
Mobile optimization: ChatGPT could be used to generate suggestions for improving the mobile-friendliness of a website, such as by suggesting changes to the layout or content to make it more easily readable on smaller screens.
Accessibility: ChatGPT could be used to generate suggestions for improving the accessibility of a website, such as by suggesting the use of alternative text for images or the inclusion of captions for videos.
Internationalization: ChatGPT could be used to generate translated versions of website content for multiple languages, which could help to improve the website's visibility and rankings in global search results.
Structured data: ChatGPT could be used to generate suggestions for adding structured data to a website, such as by adding schema markup to improve the website's visibility in rich snippets and other special search results.
User intent: ChatGPT could be used to analyze user search queries and generate content that specifically targets the user's intent, such as by identifying and addressing common questions or problems related to a particular topic.
Overall, ChatGPT has the potential to be a useful tool for a wide range of SEO tasks, including keyword research, content generation, user experience optimization, link building, title and meta tag optimization, social media, landing page optimization, on-page optimization, local SEO, voice search optimization, PPC advertising, competitive analysis, image optimization, internal linking, user-generated content, mobile optimization, accessibility, internationalization, structured data, and user intent.
Methodology
This research work is being performed using Trial and Error format. My team and I are querying the ChatGPT engine with a variety of different instructions and questions in an attempt to discern how useful this tool can be for SEO work in general and to help answer the questions about if ChatGPT and similar A.I. systems will be eliminating the need for SEOs.
In our work we are presenting multiple different businesses and products to ChatGPT and then using the conversations to prompt the engine with various SEO requirements in order to solicit responses relevant to those busineses. The transcripts below show interactions with 2 of the fictitious entities so far – a pest control company in Lewisville, TX and a company that sells a Dogecoin t-shirt.
How to Use ChatGPT For SEO
In General you should use ChatGPT for text-based tasks and research mining (i.e. looking for data / information on the web) that could take hours if done manually. Specificaly ChatGPT does a great job when all of these things are true: it is a text-based task, no website access is needed, no non-public data is needed, and there are not currently any SEO or SaaS tools that provide a specific service to do this.
Ways you should use ChatGPT for your SEO include
- Keyword Research – Use the A.I. to discover new possible keywords and combine those with other sources as the start of your keyword research project.
- Write Rough Drafts of Local Service Pages – Do not simply use the text it spits out, but use that as a guide for what to write.
- Write Product Description Rough Drafts – While only rough drafts, it often does a good job at making quality descriptions that serve as a great starting point.
- Write Social Media Post Copy Rough Drafts – ChatGPT is decent here but often goes over character limits.
- Create Optimized Title Tags – In testing this has so far been one of the best areas.
- Create Optimized Meta Desription Rough Drafts – Frequently goes over the character/width limits but is good for ideas.
- Write Landing Page Sales Copy Rough Drafts – Not always enticing, but does a decent job. Use it as a starting point or just one of many potential experiments.
- Write Attention Grabbing Headline Rough Drafts for Social Media – Goes over the charter limit but a good way to start.
- Generate Possible Longtail Searches/Voice Searches – Does a good job of predicting relevant questions consumers might be searching for.
- Write Image Alt Attribute and Title Text – One of the best things to use ChatGPT for
- Write a Rough Draft of a Message to Prompt Reviews – Often writes way too much copy, but could help get the juices flowing.
- Generate Ad Copy Ideas for Google Ads – Useful to generate ideas, but seems to be generating ideas for older Google Ads formats.
You should not use ChatGPT to try and do any SEO that requires access to data from Google, from a marketing or SEO SaaS tool, or that requires complex analysis. As a language model it is simply ill equipped for that kind of work and it does not have access to the web (currently) which would be required to do a lot of what ChatGPT itself claims it can do for your SEO.
Ways you should NOT use ChatGPT for your SEO include
- Schema Generator – Use the tools by Rank Ranger, Schema.dev, or the JSON-LD Schema Generator by Joe Hall instead. While ChatGPT is technically capable of doing this it is prone to error and it might require that you enter all of the same information anyways.
- Write Link Building Outreach Emails – The ones made by ChatGPT come off as spammy and do not do a great job of covincing the target to link to your site/document.
- Suggest Internal Links – ChatGPT cannot access the web and cannot look at your website. Use tools like InLinks instead or allow our team to use our WP Automatic Links plugin for your WordPress site.
- Link Building Target Discovery – ChatGPT cannont access the web
- Competitor Analysis – ChatGPT cannont access the web
- Technical SEO Analysis – ChatGPT cannont access the web
- Backlink Analysis – ChatGPT cannot access the web
- PageSpeed Analysis – ChatGPT cannot access the web
- Blog Post Writing – Google (and soon other engines probably) are working to detect NLP / Machine Learning / A.I. written content and demote it and the entire site along with it (see this article on the Helpful Content Update). This strong potential for site-wide demotion AND that fact that A.I. can easily create duplicate content for multiple users is a good reason to avoid using it. You should also always scan written content you purchase through an A.I. detection tool to keep writers you hire honest.
Let’s examine these and other ways A.I. systems like ChatGPT might be used for SEO. Each item below has a “Verdict” on if ChatGPT is a good tool to perform this SEO task. The most common responses here are:
- Use
- Maybe Use
- Do Not Use
Verdicts that say to use ChatGPT might be accompanied by a disclaimer on and further information on how to use it. All Verdicts have an explanation as to why followed by samples of chat transcripts to backup our determination.
1. Keyword Research
We asked ChatGPT to answer a question we already know the answer to about what keywords to target for a pest control business. While not entirely complete it was a decent start for a list of keywords. The chatbot was also really good at giving advice on relate topics to think about which could help an SEO come up with more keyword ideas or even landing pages.
Verdict = Use (as a keyword discovery source) – Like many tools ChatGPT can give you a list of keywords it thinks might help your SEO, but it has no ability to determine if that list is accurate or not, search volumes, what pages to use the keywords on, or other potential outcomes. ChatGPT even readily admits this when you ask why it gave you certain keywords.
If you want to use ChatGPT / GPT-2 / GPT-3 as a keyword research tool, only use it to find potential keywords then go do teh same hard work we have done for years determining if they are the right fit or not for your SEO.

Text Prompt and Transcript:
Joe: How many people search for a pest control service using the keyword "pest control lewisville tx" each month?
ChatGPT: It's difficult to accurately estimate the number of people who search for a pest control service using the keyword "pest control Lewisville TX" each month, as search volume can vary significantly over time and is influenced by a variety of factors, such as the season, local events, and trends in consumer behavior.
One way to get an idea of search volume for a specific keyword is to use a keyword research tool, such as the Google Keyword Planner. This tool can provide estimates of the average monthly search volume for a given keyword, as well as related keywords and phrases.
However, it's important to note that these estimates are just that - estimates - and may not accurately reflect the actual search volume for a particular keyword. Additionally, the search volume estimates provided by the Google Keyword Planner are based on data from Google Ads, and may not necessarily reflect the search volume on Google's organic search results.
Ultimately, the best way to determine the effectiveness of a particular keyword or phrase for a pest control business in Lewisville, TX is to track the website's traffic and rankings over time and compare the results to those of other keywords and phrases. This can help to identify which keywords are driving the most valuable traffic to the site.
Finally, I flat out asked ChatGPT to tell me how to go do this keyword research it seemed incapable of doing fully. The answer was to use actual keyword research tools and it mentioned a few of the better known names right now.
Text Prompt and Transcript:
Joe: How would you recommend I conduct thorough keyword research for this client?
ChatGPT: Conducting thorough keyword research is an important step in search engine optimization (SEO) for any business, as it helps to identify the most relevant and valuable keywords to target in order to drive traffic to the website and improve search rankings. Here are some steps you can follow to conduct thorough keyword research for a pest control business in Lewisville, TX:
Start by identifying the business's target audience: Who are the potential customers for the pest control business in Lewisville, TX, and what are their needs and interests? This will help to identify the types of keywords and phrases that are most likely to be relevant and valuable to the business.
Identify the business's services and products: What specific services and products does the pest control business in Lewisville, TX offer? This will help to identify additional keywords and phrases to target, such as the specific types of pests that the business can control or the methods it uses to control them.
Research the competition: What keywords and phrases are the business's competitors targeting in their SEO efforts? This can provide valuable insights into which keywords and phrases may be most effective for the business to target.
Use keyword research tools: There are a number of tools available that can help to identify relevant keywords and phrases, such as the Google Keyword Planner, SEMrush, and Ahrefs. These tools can provide estimates of the average monthly search volume for a given keyword, as well as related keywords and phrases.
Consider long-tail keywords: In addition to targeting more general, short-tail keywords, it can be beneficial to also target long-tail keywords, which are more specific and often have lower search volume but can be more targeted and therefore more valuable. For example, instead of just targeting "pest control," the business could also target more specific phrases such as "bed bug exterminator Lewisville TX" or "rodent control Lewisville TX."
Test and track results: Once you've identified a list of keywords and phrases to target, it's important to track the website's traffic and rankings over time to determine which keywords and phrases are driving the most valuable traffic to the site. This can help to identify which keywords and phrases are most effective for the business and to make any necessary adjustments to the SEO strategy.
Joe: Why did you select the keywords you have me earlier? What data suggested I should use those?
ChatGPT: The keywords that I suggested earlier for a pest control business in Lewisville, TX were selected based on general best practices for keyword research in the pest control industry, rather than on specific data for the Lewisville, TX area.
To identify the most relevant and valuable keywords for a pest control business in Lewisville, TX, it's important to conduct thorough keyword research that takes into account the business's target audience, the specific services and products it offers, and the competition. This can be done using a combination of techniques, such as analyzing the business's own website and customer data, researching the competition, and using keyword research tools.
Some specific factors to consider when conducting keyword research for a pest control business in Lewisville, TX could include the specific types of pests that are common in the area, the services that the business offers to control those pests (such as exterminating, removing, or preventing them), and the specific locations or areas that the business serves.
It's worth noting that keyword research is an ongoing process, and it's important to regularly review and update the business's keyword strategy as needed to ensure that it is targeting the most relevant and valuable keywords.
2. Create Locally Focused Content
ChatGPT said it would be good at writing locally-focused content for a small businesses website. Using our pest control business example we decided to put this to the test.
Verdict = Use (for a rough draft only) – ChatGPT excels here. However, content from AI’s like ChatGPT / GPT-3 / etc… are detectable and could be easily duplicated by other sites on accident. The only way to control for this is to use the content ChatGPT writes for you as a guide on how you might write and structure the page content and then write new copy. What is really frustrating here is that it has so far been impossible to get ChatGPT to understand concepts such as “outline”, “rough draft”, and “content brief”.
Text Prompt and Transcript:
Joe: Can you write me content for a landing page for this website?

3. Generate Schema.org Code
Weirdly this isn’t one of the things ChatGPT bragged about, but it is possible to do as I pointed out on Twitter.
Verdict = Use (with caution) This works and is useful, but you need to be mindful that it could easily go wrong. There are betteer and more accurate Schema.org generators out there so I wouldn’t use ChatGPT over them right now. If you do decide to use ChatGPT for this make sure you use a Schema.org testing tool to ensure everything is done correctly.

4. Write Link Building Outreach Emails
ChatGPT was very confidnet in its ability to do this dirty but often necessary part of SEO.
Verdict = Do Not Use – It wrote an email and it definitely is an outreach email but it likely won’t ever get to your contact’s inbox or get opened if it does. It also failed to finish writing this email content. This shows ChatGPT’s reliance on lots of human created data on the web and how fallible it can be as it suggested an outreach email that is of poor quality.
Text Prompt and Transcript:
Joe: Please write a compelling outreach email for this website to try and get them to link to the website
ChatGPT: Here is a sample outreach email that could be used to try and get a website to link to a pest control business in Lewisville, TX:
Subject: Request for a link on your website
Dear [website owner],
I hope this email finds you well. My name is [Your Name] and I am the owner of ABC Pest Control, a local pest control business in Lewisville, TX.

I would be happy to answer any questions you may have about our business or our services. Please let me know if you are interested in pursuing this opportunity, and I will provide you with any additional information you may
5. Suggest Internal Links
ChatGPT bragged that it would be a good tool to “generate suggestions for internal links within a website” but it must have forgotten that it does not have access to external websites in order to do this.
Verdict = Do Not Use – ChatGPT failed miserably here even though it was 100% confident it could do this task. Instead you’ll have to do this sort of work manually, or if you’re one of our WordPress SEO clients we will be using our client-exclusive plugin WP Automatic Links to generate internal links automatically. You can also use the tool “InLinks” by my friend Dixon Jones to do this.
Text Prompt and Transcript:
Joe: Earlier you said you ChatGPT could be used to generate suggestions for internal links within a website. Please review the site REDACTED.com and give your suggestions.
ChatGPT: I'm sorry, but I am not able to access external websites or view specific websites in order to generate suggestions for internal links.
In general, internal linking is an important aspect of SEO, as it helps to improve the overall structure and navigation of a website, as well as to distribute link equity more evenly across the site.
6. Write SEO Optimized Product Descriptions
I wanted to see if I could get ChatGPT to write an product description and then an SEO optimized version of one.
Verdict = Maybe Use – Use this to generate ideas for a product description but do not expect ChatGPT to be great at SEO optimizing your product description or to care about what your product actually is. The A.I. made up the material, sizes available, and fit of the t-shirt I requested it make a description for. When asked to optimize that description for SEO, ChatGPT essentially just made it much shorter.
Normal product description chat – Text Prompt and Transcript:
Joe: Please write a product description for a Dogecoin t-shirt
ChatGPT: Sure! Here is a product description for a Dogecoin t-shirt:

ChatGPT: In the optimized version of the product description, I incorporated relevant keywords such as "Dogecoin t-shirt," "cryptocurrency," "Shiba Inu," and "cryptocurrency enthusiast." These keywords will help the product description rank higher in search engine results when users search for these terms.
I also made sure to include a clear and concise call-to-action at the end of the description to encourage users to purchase the t-shirt.
Additionally, I made sure to use language that is easy for users to understand and engage with, which can help improve the overall user experience and potentially increase the chances of a purchase.
Overall, by optimizing the product description for SEO, I am helping to increase the visibility of the t-shirt and make it more likely that users will find and purchase it.
7. Write Social Media Post Copy (with emojis)
One of the things ChatGPT said it could do for SEO was to write social media posts. Even ChatGPT doesn’t seem to know that social media content does not have a direct SEO impact. Still, since we know going viral can obviously help sales and even score links and UGC content from new customers that helps SEO, I wanted to put this one to the test.
Verdict = Maybe Use (for ideas only) – The first crack it took at copy was decent but far too long for most platforms. When asked to rewrite it for Twitter the copy became far more bland. Also tried following up to get ideas for an image or GIF to go along with the copy it suggested on Twitter and they were average ideas at best.
First try – Text Prompt and Transcript:
Joe: Please write a social media post about this t-shirt
ChatGPT: Sure! Here is a social media post about the Dogecoin t-shirt:
"Attention all crypto enthusiasts! π¨π° We've just released a new Dogecoin t-shirt that is sure to be the perfect addition to your wardrobe. Featuring the iconic Shiba Inu dog and made from high-quality cotton, this t-shirt is comfortable, stylish, and a great way to show your support for Dogecoin. Available in sizes small to XXL, order yours now and join the Dogecoin community in style! ππΈ #Dogecoin #Cryptocurrency #Tshirt"
Request for content to use on Twitter – Text Prompt and Transcript:
Joe: Thanks, any chance you could write that for Twitter?
ChatGPT: Certainly! Here is a social media post about the Dogecoin t-shirt for Twitter:
"Just released: our new Dogecoin t-shirt! Show your support for one of the most popular cryptos with this stylish, comfortable, and high-quality cotton shirt. Available in sizes S-XXL. Order yours now and join the Dogecoin community in style! #Dogecoin #Cryptocurrency #Tshirt"
I kept the tweet concise and focused on the key points of the t-shirt, while also incorporating relevant hashtags to make it more discoverable on the platform. I hope this helps! Let me know if you have any other questions.
Joe: Appreciate it there partner. Could you also suggest what a good image or GIF might be to go along with this copy?
ChatGPT: Certainly! Here are a few ideas for images or GIFs that could go along with this social media post:
An image of the Dogecoin t-shirt being worn by a model or influencer, with the iconic Shiba Inu dog prominently displayed on the front.
A GIF of the Shiba Inu dog, the mascot of Dogecoin, winking or giving a "thumbs up" to signify the excitement and hype around the cryptocurrency.
An image or GIF of the Dogecoin logo, which features the Shiba Inu dog surrounded by a coin shape. This could be a good way to showcase the brand and its visual identity.
A screenshot of the Dogecoin price chart, showing the cryptocurrency's growth and popularity over time. This could be a good way to emphasize the value and potential of Dogecoin as an investment.
Ultimately, the best image or GIF will depend on the tone and style of your social media post, as well as the preferences of your audience. I hope these suggestions help give you some ideas!
8. Write Optimized Title Tags
Verdict = Use ChatGPT did a great job here writing a title tag with good SEO and marketing baked in while also staying under the character width/limit for most search engines.
Text Prompt and Transcript:
Joe: Can you write an optimized Title tag for this t-shirt's product page?
ChatGPT: Sure! Here is an optimized title tag for this t-shirt's product page:
"Dogecoin T-Shirt: Show Your Support for Cryptocurrency with Style"
This title tag incorporates relevant keywords such as "Dogecoin," "T-Shirt," and "Cryptocurrency," which can help the product page rank higher in search engine results when users search for these terms. It also clearly communicates the purpose of the t-shirt, which is to show support for Dogecoin, and highlights its stylish design.
Additionally, by including the word "style" in the title, I am emphasizing the fashion aspect of the t-shirt, which could be a key selling point for potential customers.
Overall, this title tag should help attract users who are interested in Dogecoin or cryptocurrency in general, and provide a clear and compelling reason to visit the product page.
9. Write Optimized Meta Descriptions
Verdict = Use (as a rough draft) – Unfortunately ChatGPT appears to love defying the character count/width limits here and often generates a meta description that will get cut off on both mobile and desktop versions of Google.
Text Prompt and Transcript:
Joe: Could you please also write an optimized meta description for this product?
ChatGPT: Certainly! Here is an optimized meta description for this product:
"Get your hands on our Dogecoin t-shirt and show your support for one of the most popular cryptocurrencies in the world. Made from 100% cotton and featuring the iconic Shiba Inu dog, this comfortable and stylish t-shirt is available in sizes small to XXL. Order yours now and join the Dogecoin community in style!"
This meta description incorporates relevant keywords such as "Dogecoin," "t-shirt," "cryptocurrency," and "Shiba Inu," which can help the product page rank higher in search engine results when users search for these terms. It also provides a clear overview of the product, highlighting its features and benefits, and includes a call-to-action to encourage users to purchase the t-shirt.
Overall, this meta description should help attract users who are interested in Dogecoin or cryptocurrency in general, and provide a clear and compelling reason to visit the product page.
10. Write Sales Copy for Advertising Landing Pages
ChatGPT thinks it will be great for advertising. It has told me this numerous times already in my testing.
Verdict = Use (as a rough draft or just ideas) – It generated page copy that is more sales-focused than the product description above (for the same imaginary product), but I am not convinced this page would do much better. If you are hitting a brick wall or just want more landing page copy ideas, this is certainly useful, but far from one and done.
Text Prompt and Transcript:
Joe: Could you write me landing page sales copy for an advertising landing page to sell this dogecoin shirt?

11. Write Attention Grabbing Social Media Post Headline Copy
Verdict = Use (for ideas only) – It generated a great headline for Facebook but it was over the character limit. In fact most, if not all of the ones it offered up for social media headlines, were over character limits.
Text Prompt and Transcript:
Joe: Can you write me an attention grabbing title for this product page to use on Facebook Open Graph?
ChatGPT: Sure! Here is a attention grabbing title for this product page to use on Facebook Open Graph:
"Be the Envy of the Crypto World with Our Dogecoin T-Shirt!"
This title is designed to grab the attention of users and make them feel excited about owning this Dogecoin t-shirt. By using words like "envy" and "sensational," I am trying to create a sense of desire and exclusivity around the product.
Additionally, by including the phrase "crypto world," I am emphasizing the fact that this t-shirt is a must-have for anyone interested in cryptocurrency. This could be a particularly effective tactic if you are targeting a younger, tech-savvy audience who is interested in staying up-to-date with the latest trends and innovations in the world of crypto.
Overall, this title should help generate interest and excitement around the product, and encourage users to click through to the product page.
More options for Facebook – Text Prompt and Transcript:

I hope these additional options give you some more ideas for sensational titles to use on Facebook Open Graph! Let me know if you have any other questions.
12. Generate Longtail Searchs / Questions Used in Voice Search or Normal Search
Since ChatGPT cannot access websites and doesn’t have data from search engines or voice devices these would all likely be guesses. You could easily get these by hand yourself by looking up questions people ask on Reddit or Quora about a topic, looking for People Also Ask in the Google SERPs, Reviewing support tickets / customer service messages from your customers, or mining your competitors websites for FAQ’s they list about the same products or services.
Verdict = Use (for ideas only) – This was another thing ChatGPT appears to excel at but you need to verify these questions are actually being asked. That means taking them and looking for them across the web, in forums, and on places like Reddit.
Text Prompt and Transcript:
Joe: please generate longtail searches related to this business that would be used in voice search
ChatGPT: Here are a few examples of long-tail searches related to a pest control business in Lewisville, TX that could potentially be used in voice search:
"How do I get rid of ants in my house in Lewisville, TX?"
"What is the best way to prevent bed bugs in Lewisville, TX?"
"Where can I find a reliable pest control company in Lewisville, TX?"
"Do you offer termite inspection and control in Lewisville, TX?"
"I need help removing mice from my attic in Lewisville, TX, can you help?"
"What is the cost of a pest control service in Lewisville, TX?"
"Do you offer eco-friendly pest control options in Lewisville, TX?"
"What are the most common pests in Lewisville, TX?"
"I need help getting rid of mosquitoes in my backyard in Lewisville, TX, what can you recommend?"
"Do you offer emergency pest control services in Lewisville, TX?"
It's worth noting that these are just a few examples, and the actual long-tail searches used in voice search will depend on a variety of factors, such as the specific needs and preferences of the user and the services and products offered by the pest control business. Conducting thorough keyword research and testing different options can help
13. Generate Image Alt Attribute and Title Text
Verdict = Use – ChatGPT does a really great job here as long a you explain what the photo is of and it has an idea what it is for.
Image alt attribute and title text request for our Dogecoin t-shirt – Text Prompt and Transcript:
Joe: Could you write alt attribute and image title text for a photo of this t-shirt please?
ChatGPT: Certainly! Here are suggestions for alt attribute and image title text for a photo of this Dogecoin t-shirt:
Alt attribute: "Dogecoin t-shirt featuring the iconic Shiba Inu dog"
Image title: "Show your support for Dogecoin with our stylish t-shirt"
The alt attribute should provide a brief description of the image for users who are unable to see it, such as those using screen readers or those with slow internet connections. The image title can be used to provide more context or additional information about the image.
In this case, the alt attribute concisely describes the key features of the t-shirt, while the image title emphasizes the purpose of the t-shirt (to show support for Dogecoin) and highlights its stylish design.
Overall, these alt attribute and image title text options should provide users with a clear understanding of what is shown in the image and why it is relevant to them.
Same request for a photo with barely any description – Text Prompt and Transcript:
Joe: Could you write image alt attribute and title text for a photo of a piece of Musgravite
ChatGPT: Sure! Here is an example of alt text and a title for a photo of a piece of Musgravite:
Alt text: "A small, dark piece of Musgravite, a rare mineral with a metallic luster and a chemical composition of (Mg,Fe)2SiO4"
Title: "Musgravite: A Rare Mineral with a Metallic Luster"
Alt text is an attribute that is used in HTML to describe the content of an image on a web page. It is important to include alt text because it provides a text-based description of the image, which can be helpful for people who are visually impaired or using a screen reader. The title attribute, on the other hand, is used to provide additional information about an image and is usually displayed as a tooltip when the user hovers over the image.
14. Write Message Prompt Copy to Solicit Reviews
Verdict = Use (for ideas only) – ChatGPT does write message prompts but they are often lengthy and verbose, even if you give the A.I. more details about your usage case.
An attempt to get copy for gaining reviews from buyers of our Dogecoin shirt – Text Prompt and Transcript:
Joe: Please write a message prompt to ask shoppers to review this shirt
ChatGPT: Sure! Here is a message prompt to ask shoppers to review this Dogecoin t-shirt:
"We hope you're enjoying your new Dogecoin t-shirt! If you have a few minutes, we'd love to hear your thoughts about the product. How do you like the fit? How is the quality? We value your feedback, and your reviews help us improve our products and better serve our customers. Thank you for your support, and we hope to see you again soon!
Sincerely, [Company Name]"
This message prompt is designed to be friendly and polite, while also providing clear instructions on what the shopper is being asked to do. By asking for specific feedback on the fit and quality of the t-shirt, the prompt is more likely to elicit useful and helpful reviews that can help other customers make informed purchasing decisions.
Additionally, by thanking the shopper for their support and expressing a desire to see them again in the future, the prompt is more likely to encourage a positive response.
Overall, this message prompt should be an effective way to ask shoppers to review the Dogecoin t-shirt and gather valuable feedback on the product.
Request for short copy to place in a popup – Text Prompt and Transcript:
Joe: Please write a brief message prompt to place in a pop-up asking customers for a review
ChatGPT: "We hope you had a great experience with our product/service. Would you mind taking a few minutes to leave a review and let us know how we did? Your feedback helps us improve and serve our customers better. Thank you for your support!"
15. Write ad copy for Google Ads
Verdict = Use (for ideas only) – ChatGPT appears to not be aware that Google Ads format has changed to RSA’s only and gives advertising text that would fit an older version of Google Ads. Still with relatively little input it churs out quite a few advertisement ideas. These are probably similar to the auto-apply ads Google creates and as such are likely often worse than those created by advertising professionals, however, taking ideas from ChatGPT here and running them as a test could be extremely useful.
A request for our pest control business – Text Prompt and Transcript:
Joe: Please write ad copy for Google Ads responsive ads for this business.

16. Write HTML Code to Make Calculators
Inspired by Sarah Taher’s post I decided to use ChatGPT to make an ROAS Calculator. Click that link to see the resulting code after a long discussion having ChatGPT fix the code and make styling adjustments.
Verdict = Use (but be ready to troubleshoot and style with CSS) – ChatGPT did a great job here, likely because the code only needed to be HTML and didn’t require any libraries, other code, or databases. The A.I. generated a quick and fairly ugly ROAS Calculator for me and even gave me custom CSS to style it with when asked, but struggled with trying to use it for a business purpose and understanind the environment the code was placed in. In this specific exampl we use WPBakery as the page builder and that requires usage of the “Raw HTML” element to ensure the code works properly. I also wanted the A.I. to include a GravityForm when the ROAS was calculated. It was capable of doing this but it only displayed the shortcode and the A.I. was not able to determine why (except that perhaps I am dense and had deactivated GravityForms).
Text Prompt and Transcript:
Joe: Please write HTML code to make a working ROAS calculator I can add to a WordPress page.
ChatGPT: Sure! Here is an HTML code snippet that you can use to create a ROAS (Return on Ad Spend) calculator:
< /form />
Ad Spend: $< input type="number" name="ad_spend" >< br >
Revenue: $< input type="number" name="revenue" >< br >
< input type="button" value="Calculate ROAS" onclick="calculateROAS()" >
< br >
ROAS: < span id="result" ></span >
< /form />
< /script />
function calculateROAS() {
var adSpend = document.getElementsByName("ad_spend")[0].value;
var revenue = document.getElementsByName("revenue")[0].value;
var result = document.getElementById("result");
result.innerHTML = (revenue / adSpend).toFixed(2);
}
< /script />
This code creates a form with two input fields for ad spend and revenue, and a button to trigger the ROAS calculation. When the button is clicked, the calculateROAS() function is called, which retrieves the values from the input fields, calculates the ROAS, and displays the result in the result span element.
To add this to a WordPress page, you can either use the "Text" block in the WordPress editor and paste the code directly, or you can create a custom plugin or child theme that includes the code.
Joe: This code did not function, can you diagnose why and tell me how to fix it?
ChatGPT: There could be a few reasons why the code is not working as expected. Here are a few things you can try to troubleshoot and fix the issue:
Make sure that the code is properly placed in the HTML of your WordPress page. You can use the "Text" block in the WordPress editor to add the code directly to the page.
Check the JavaScript console in your browser for any errors that might be causing the code to fail. To open the console, right-click on the page and select "Inspect" (or use the keyboard shortcut Ctrl+Shift+I on Windows or Command+Option+I on Mac).
Make sure that the input fields have the correct names. In the code snippet I provided, the input fields are named "ad_spend" and "revenue", and these names are used to retrieve the values from the form. If you have changed the names of the input fields, make sure to update the code accordingly.
Make sure that the script tag is properly placed in the HTML. The script tag should be placed after the form element, or it can also be placed in the of the document.
If the issue persists, you can try wrapping the entire code snippet in a window.onload event handler. This will ensure that the script runs after the page has finished loading:
I hope these suggestions help! Let me know if you have any other questions or if you need further assistance.
17. Generate Ideas for an Infographic
While Infographic link building isn’t as hot as it was a decade prior, it is still around.
Verdict = Use (as only one source of ideas) – ChatGPT does a decent job of coming up with ideas to help the creative process, but they are often generic sounding. Use it as one source of inspiration not your sole source. If you follow the Brain Writing or Thought Farming creative processes then consider ChatGPT one of your creative staffers and provide its ideas to other members to help them generate more creative concepts.
Text Prompt and Transcript:
Joe: What are some good ideas for an SEO infographic?
ChatGPT: Here are a few ideas for an SEO infographic:
An overview of how search engines work, including the process of crawling, indexing, and ranking websites.
A list of the most important ranking factors and how they impact search engine rankings.
A guide to keyword research, including tips on how to find and target the right keywords for your business.
A comparison of different SEO tactics, such as on-page optimization, off-page optimization, and technical SEO.
An infographic on local SEO, including tips on how to optimize your website for local search results.
A breakdown of the different types of search results, such as organic results, paid results, and local results, and how they differ.
An infographic on mobile SEO, including tips on how to optimize your website for mobile devices.
A guide to link building, including tips on how to acquire high-quality links from other websites.
An infographic on the role of social media in SEO, including tips on how to use social media to improve your search rankings.
An overview of common SEO mistakes and how to avoid them.
Remember to keep your infographic visually appealing and easy to understand, and be sure to include accurate and up-to-date information.
18. Write SEO Tickets for Your Dev Team
In some organizations SEO is handled by one or more SEO Managers/Specialists interfacing with a team of developers who work on a website or app or part of that website or app (sometimes referred t as a ‘product’). Writing out technical specification documentation or SEO request tickets can be a time consuming task for an in-house SEO requesting work be done to optimize a certain page or pages. ChatGPT and future solutions similar to it are well suited to make this work take only a few seconds according to Charly Wargnier.
I attempted something similar to get a rough draft for an HTML website we are working on.
Verdict = Use (as a rough draft and verify the useful links) – ChatGPT did pretty awful at this until I defined the request much in the same way Charly did in the tweet above. You have to request that ChatGPT provide the story, acceptance criteria, and useful links otherwise it just spits out extremely generic instructions that could have been copy+pasted from somewhere else just as easy and fast.
Text Prompt and Transcript:
Joe: Write a detailed technical document for installing Google Analytics 4 on an HTML website please. Include acceptance criteria and useful links and the story (As the SEO Manager I would like to improve how we track website traffic by installing Google Analytics 4 on all pages)
ChatGPT: Google Analytics 4 (GA4) is a powerful tool that allows you to track and analyze the traffic and behavior of your website visitors. If you're an SEO manager looking to improve your website's tracking capabilities, installing GA4 on your HTML website is a great first step.
To install GA4 on your HTML website, follow these steps:
Sign up for a Google Analytics account: If you don't already have a Google Analytics account, you'll need to sign up for one. Go to https://analytics.google.com/ and click "Sign Up" in the top right corner. Follow the prompts to create your account and set up your property.
Get your tracking code: After you've set up your property, you'll be given a tracking code that you'll need to add to your website. To get your tracking code, go to the "Admin" section of your Google Analytics account and click on "Tracking Info" under the "Property" column. Then, click on "Tracking Code" to see your tracking ID and tracking code.
Add the tracking code to your website: Now that you have your tracking code, you'll need to add it to your website. To do this, you'll need to edit the HTML code of your website. If you're using a content management system (CMS) like WordPress, you may be able to use a plugin to add the tracking code for you. If not, you'll need to manually add the tracking code to the header of your website's HTML code. To do this, open your website's HTML code and find the element. Then, paste your tracking code immediately after the element.
Test your tracking code: After you've added the tracking code to your website, it's a good idea to test it to make sure it's working properly. To do this, go to the "Real-Time" section of your Google Analytics account and visit your website. You should see your own activity being tracked in real-time.
Acceptance criteria:
The tracking code has been properly added to the website's HTML code.
The tracking code is correctly sending data to the Google Analytics account.
The tracking code is accurately tracking visitor activity on the website.

As the SEO Manager, you can now improve how you track website traffic by using Google Analytics 4 on all pages of your website. This will allow you to gain valuable insights into how your visitors are interacting with your website and make data-driven decisions to improve your online presence.
19. Get a List of Domain Name Ideas
It is getting harder and harder to find a good domain name. ChatGPT can sort of help you out here. While the service does not (yet) have internet access and is not plugged into the ICANN registry system to know what domains are or are not available, it does do a decent job of generating ides for a domain name. With most ChatGPT prompts though you need to be careful to try and give it the most description instructions possible. You also want to use a mixture of prompts to encourate ChatGPT to give you a good list or two of creative ideas. For example using our fake Pest Control business we asked ChatGPT for a list of domain names and it always included the name of the city. However, when told not to use the city name, state name, or state abbreviation ChatGPT got a lot more creative.
Without excluding the city or state:
Joe: Please give me a list of 25 domain name ideas for a pest control company in Lewisville Texas, all .COM domains.
