Tools of Pubcon Austin 2023

Conferences are back, live and in-person baby!

Last week I attended Pubcon Austin 2023, the first time in a decade as visitor and not a speaker, to support my friends and colleagues and an institution that brings us together a few times every year. While there I discovered some awesome new tools (besides ChatGPT) that my team and you can use to improve your SEO or digital marketing.

1. Figpii

With Google Optimize being sunset, many marketers might be looking for a new A/B testing offering. Figpii was built by Pubcon speaker Khalid Saleh to help fill that gap and even comes with a Free testing tier, which most similar offerings do not have.

The tool offers more than just A/B testing. It also includes Heatmaps, Session Recordings, and Polling features.

FigPii also integrates with various platforms includiung WordPress, Shopify, Unbounce, BigCommerce, Magento, WooCommerce, and Leadpages.

2. Analytics Canvas

Brian Massey of Conversion Sciences recommended that website owners use this tool to backup all of their Universal Analytics data before the cutoff later this year and help view Universal Analytics and Google Analytics 4 data.

They also have a blog that is super-focused on niche Google Analytics problems giving out a bunch of tips lately to help businesses transition away from the moribund Universal Analytics and Analytics360 products.

3. SEODataViz

Ryan Jones, Senior Vice President of Search for Razorfish, built this free tool in his spare time to help SEOs visualize metrics. The tool comes in 2 flavors: Ngram Map and Relevant questions to a keyword you provide, Ngram map that compares 2 URLs to each other.

The main tool allows you to check for a keyword on Google and Bing or on Amazon then generates various data visualizations from it. The Ngram maps the tool creates are neat, but most users might like the “Related Questions” the most, and they can be easily exported – meaning it can easily be a replacement for Answer the Public.

4. PlePer

PlePer’s toolset for Local SEO came highly recommended by the Chief Operating Officer of SearchLab, Greg Gifford. The toolset is fairly inexpensive for an individual business at just $18 / year and comes with a handful of features that make Local SEO work a lot easier including duplicate listing checks, new reviews monitoring, and a short link businesses can send to customers to gather reviews. PlePer also offers a handful of extremely useful free tools, including one I’ve recommended to help find your Google Business Profile CID.

Greg recommended PlePer and their companion Chrome browser extension for their reviews monitoring service.

At their abnormally inexpensive price and with such a big recommendation, it is definitely worth signing up and testing out.

5. Mieruka Heatmap

mieruka heatmap

In his talk Kenichi Suzuki revealed that his company has released a FREE heatmap tool, which I think is called “Mieruka Heatmap”. I could be wrong because the site is in Japanese and even though I tried to take Japanese in High School they canceled the class and I had to take French instead.

The website does not offer an English translation of its own and the Chrome provided translation is often incomplete making it a little difficult for someone unfamiliar with the language to navigate.

Still, it is a free heatmapping tool with Attention Heatmaps, Scrolling Heatmaps, and Click Heatmaps. Definitely worth a try.

6. Places Scout

places scout features

A brand known by Local SEOs for years, Places Scout bundles a bunch of tools under one roof including Geo Matrix Rank tracking, Google Business Profile montioring, and insights on your local citations. I believe when discussing this tool Greg Gifford called them the “Goat” of local rankings and citation data.

Places scout does not have standard pricing on their website, you have to reach out to get pricing information tailored to your needs.

7. WriteAI

WriteAI wasn’t mentioned by anyone at Pubcon, that’s largely because it was not launched yet. WriteAI is an AI writing and content generation tool that seeks to empower humans and teams of humans to create amazing content with the assistance of Artificial Intelligence. The tool is competitively priced and was one of the first, if not the first, tools on the market to integrate the new ChatGPT API.

If you read this far you can get WriteAI for free for 2 months along with a 25% off lifetime of any paid package using this code: Pubcon2023
