Description
PRWeb is the original press release distribution platform on the internet starting around the same time as websites like Amazon and Google. Born out of frustration for the expensive press release distribution of the time and the zero results it gained his business, founder David McInnis decided that the website would be free to use until around 2001 after years of being unable to gain high enough advertising CPM rates to sustainably grow the business. In January of 2001 the website was rebuilt and the ads were removed with a request that users donate what they could to submit a press release. In 2006 after the founder’s fight with cancer PRWeb was sold to Vocus, Inc. for $28 million in cash and stock. When Vocus merged with Cision in October of 2014 the PRWeb service was integrated into various Cision PR packages. Today the tool is the most commonly used Press Release distribution tool touted by Cision as being used by a large variety of industries and large companies, even though the cost of the service has increased considerably since its founding and there are complaints about how well it aids in gaining media coverage.
