Description
In mid-May 2024 someone at Google accidentally leaked this private API document used by developers on Google’s search team to a public Github repository. It was discovered by an SEO/Developer Erfan Arzimi who according to his LinkedIN profile does not work at Google and is not an ex-Googler but has worked as a career SEO since at least 2013 and now owns his own agency (he also refers to himself as “the Industry’s Top Pioneer”). He then passed it on to Rand Fishkin who passed it to Michael King to review. Both of the later men then shared it with the SEO community late on Memorial Day 2024 after having written in-depth blog posts about it. The document contains over 14,000 “ranking features” that members of Google’s search developer team can call to use in their projects. Many of these are known SEO ranking factors, some have been assumed to be for quite some time, and some of them have been disavowed by Google as not existing in the past (or as Mike King puts it they use “semantics” to downplay the existence of certain ranking signals / factors).
Out of fear that the document might be taken down or removed at some point in the future, we have created a .EPUB backup file you can download and load into any e-reader here: 2024 Google Search API Leaked Document
Some SEOs claim the documentation is a nothing burger and there is nothing new to be gleaned from it, some believe it is authentic and reveals many secrets, some believe the SEO industry is overhyping the document, and others don’t believe the document is authentic or of recent dating (though it includes calls for “LLMs” which makes it likely newer than November 2022).
